The Kiama Downs Surf Life Saving Club is planning to enhance the existing clubhouse facilities, replacing the original 30 year old carpet, glass sliding doors, windows and ceiling fans as well as installing a new PA system and celling sound insulation and giving the club a new coat of paint.
While the primary purpose of the club facility is to support the 684 club members to provide a safe beach environment to the general public, the Kiama Downs Surf Club is also extensively used for other community activities. The Club offers an affordable hall hire rate in a prime location, so is well utilised by members of the public. The hall is booked out most Friday’s and Weekends year round for private functions. The clubhouse is also used by My Vibe fitness 5 days a week. It is the club policy to offer the hall free of charge to community organisations. This offer has been regularly taken up by groups such as Minnamurra Lions, Kiama Netball, Kiama Hockey and Relay For Life.
Kiama Downs has always been a fantastic place to live and well enjoyed by the local community members. Recent years has seen a big increase in the patronage of the beach and surrounding water areas such as the Bone Yard and Minnamurra River. This has been driven in part by the upgrade of the local shopping complex at Kiama Downs, but also by an increase in holiday rental properties in the area. As part of this change, there has also been an increase in the diversity of beach goers over recent years with a wide array of multicultural tourist groups now enjoying the vibrant area and the safe environment provided by the Kiama Downs Surf Club.
In order to maintain and increase the level of community service and club usage by both club members and the general public , some of the original 30 year old infrastructure needs to be replaced or upgraded.
